Family Medicine is the "specialty of breadth." When you or any
member of your family needs to see a doctor, a family physician is a
great place to start. Family physicians provide comprehensive medical
care for persons of all ages. Services include preventive care, and the
diagnosis and treatment of both acute and chronic disorders, and minor
surgical procedures.
Your family physician will also order specialized diagnostic
tests and coordinate your overall care, communicating and consulting
with other specialists and/or arranging a referral if needed. All
family physicians in SAPC are board-certified in family medicine, and
have completed a nationally accredited 3-year family practice residency
training program following graduation from medical school. A family
practice residency includes extensive training in preventive medicine,
pediatrics, adolescent medicine, internal medicine (adult medicine),
gynecology, minor surgery, office orthopedics, dermatology, behavioral
medicine and a variety of sub-specialty rotations (e.g., cardiology,
gastroenterology, neurology).
